Find Awe in 5 min: An Exercise
Fall is my favorite time of year. I love watching change happen before my eyes. Nature is in control not me, and I also feel a sense of wonder reveling at the hues of yellow, red, orange, and pinks.
I feel a part of something bigger than myself, and my stress melts away even for a minute or two.
Turns out these feelings are science-backed. “Wonder is an essential human emotion — and a salve for a turbulent mind.”
How to experience more of this in your daily life and work? It’s simple really…
This where I usually ask you to sign up for my newsletter to get my free monthly exercises, but today we need AWE more than ever.
So do try this at home!
Awe is Everywhere! – Exercise (5 min)
Move Yourself: Pop outside or stay inside and change your environment. Move to another room, walk to a different area of your office, etc.
Beauty in the Details: Look at something you usually overlook—a pattern in a leaf or sidewalk, the sound of your footsteps, the scratch on a wall.
Observe: Look at it intently for a minute or more if you’re vibing. What do you notice? Is there a pattern, color, something else?
Reflect: Why is this thing interesting or beautiful? What makes it different from other things around it? Does it remind you of anything else in your life -– an experience, an object, a feeling?
(Bonus) Capture the Moment: Write down a sentence or two about your experience, draw a quick sketch, or take a photo.
