Data Dump Be Gone! 300 E-Commerce Experts Learn From Each Other, Not Just From Speakers

Challenge

The client came to us to design the first day of a two-day in-person summit for 300 retail e-commerce experts that balanced high-quality content, peer learning, and meaningful connections. They also needed summit speakers to lead breakout sessions that were less one-sided lecture and more facilitated, interactive learning experiences.

Solution

Follow the Fear coached speakers, designed and facilitated the conference opening and closing sessions, plus other Summit touch-points:

  • Coached subject matter expert (SMEs) on how to design and lead more experiential, learner-centric sessions, which included 1-to-1 feedback.

  • Developed a speaker guide takeaway with facilitation and LXD best practices.

  • Created and led a team-based collaboration game to kick off the day and build momentum.

  • Embedded structured networking moments during lunch to encourage real connection.

  • Introduced a “Wall of Insights” with prompts to capture participant learnings, goals, and reflections throughout the day.

  • Facilitated a high-energy movement-based exercise to close the day.

Result

Summit received high ratings from attendees noting its design and energy was unique compared to previous years.

  • Attendees found the breakout sessions highly valuable because they were fun, engaging, and “not a data dump.”

  • Session takeaways were directly applicable to their work.

  • Participants enjoyed the peer-to-peer learning and networking moments.

The Tourist Office of Spain

A Bilingual Leadership & Art Team-building Turns 100 Global Colleagues into a Community

Challenge

The Tourist Office of Spain brought together ~100 Spanish and American travel agents, tour operators, and hospitality leaders for a multi-day conference. They needed a bilingual, half-day team-building workshop that would deepen relationships, spark collaboration, and build cultural connection–despite participant fatigue and a packed agenda.

action

Designed and facilitated an English & Spanish, experiential workshop that blended movement, storytelling, and collaborative games that integrated with the artwork in the museum venue. Shared design below:

3 Things in 3 Minutes

  • Exercise: Paired “stand-up” exchange to find three non-obvious things in common

  • Purpose: Build fast personal connection across cultures

Dance, Dance

  • Exercise: Partnered movement with alternating leader/follower roles

  • Purpose: Establish trust, play, and embodied listening

Draw Your Story

  • Exercise: Individual storytelling inspired by Spanish paintings, shared in small groups

  • Purpose: Encourage creativity, personal reflection, and cultural curiosity

Act Out a Story (Living Paintings)

  • Exercise: Groups physically recreated scenes from the paintings and posted for a photo. Photos were voted on by everyone for a low-stakes competition.

  • Purpose: Strengthen collaboration, risk-taking, and create shared memories

Reflection + Commitments

  • Exercise: Share “Ah-Ha” insights and “I Will” work-related commitments

  • Purpose: Anchor learning and personal relevance

Spanish Cheers + Social Voting

  • Exercise: Group toast followed by cocktail-hour and announce winners

  • Purpose: Close with celebration, connection, and informal networking

Our day 2 workshop was a highlight of the 3-day conference, which put the attendees in a happy, relaxed state of mind before an intense final day.

  • High energy and visible engagement despite participant fatigue.

  • People leaned in, talked through breaks, and enthusiastically joined physical activities—clear signals of trust and involvement.

  • Strong emotional connection and positive feedback from participants, with recommendations to extend the session length in future programs.
